ReelArts: Arts Exhibitions

With the support of the Eleanor and Frank Freed Foundation, artists are able to showcase their work throughout Houston during ReelAbilities. From abstract pieces to black and white photographs, ReelArts gives many an opportunity that will allow them to continue to flourish as artists. Exhibit times and locations are listed at the bottom of the page.

Longhorn

Jared Dunten

Jared Dunten is a former TIRR Memorial Hermann patient who creates dynamic oil paintings on canvas ranging from flowers, animals and landscapes. He was awarded a student membership to the MFPA (Mouth and Foot Painting Artists) based in Lichtenstein.

In his work he finds peace, inspiration and encouragement as he makes his way through the arduous journey to recover from paralysis. He was paralyzed from the neck down in 2000 in a swimming accident. Dunten lives and works outside of Austin, Texas.

Celebration Company

Celebration Company is an entrepreneurial business site developed by JFS Disability Services to provide Jewish adults with disabilities an entry into the workplace. They create a range of beautiful products ranging from handmade paper, hand-rolled candles and assembled artist photography notecards. Celebration Company is based in Houston, TX.

Alyssa Miller

Alyssa L. Miller

Alyssa Miller is an emerging photographer who uses film and digital photography to capture pieces of life that often seem mundane or insignificant in a way that makes people stop and take a second glance. Through her work, Alyssa is not only able to reveal an often overlooked beauty in the things we take for granted, but she is able to reveal a part of herself- and her story as a highly sensitive young adult- as well.

Kate Mattiesen

Kate Matthiesen

Kate Matthiesen works with acrylics and pastels on multiple surfaces, including canvas, paper, board and velvet. Matthiesen works in an expressive, painterly way and incorporates many creative techniques to complete a piece. She was born with a profound language-based learning disability and speaks and writes with difficulty. Matthiesen lives and works in Houston, Texas.
